Diane Franklin

Basil PoledourisDuring the rest of my adolescence, I needed to fill the void that Carrie Fisher left after Jedi, since she didn’t do much after that.  Enter Diane Franklin.  Again at home during the day in the summer, I watched The Last American Virgin without my parent’s permission.  This film is gripping and racy, even by today’s standards.  And the ending absolutely sucks.  It’s brutal, even suicidal.

But nonetheless, the female lead was played by Diane Franklin, virtually a younger more sumptuous Carrie Fisher who’s closer to my own age.  A few years later she stared with John Cusack in Better Off Dead as the French foreign exchange student Monique Junot, and I was hooked.  She hasn’t done much since then: Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure being the lone exception, but she occasionally makes cameos on TV shows.
