Otis Day and the Knights

Basil PoledourisEverybody know who Otis Day and the Knights are: they are the band from Animal House who sing “Shout” during the toga party.  And I love this scene as much as the next guy but when Otter, Boon, Pinto, and Flounder pick up the Dickinson College girls and go for a road trip to the Dexter Lake Club, we hear Otis at his absolute best.  “Shamma Lamma Ding Dong” is literally one of my top five favorite songs ever.  I’ve listened to it at least once every day of my life since about 1987 when I bought the soundtrack on cassette tape.

And thankfully, DeWayne Jessie got off the smack, cleaned up his life, changed his name to Otis Day in the late 1980’s, re-formed the actual Knights, and took his act on the road.  They play everywhere.
