David Lynch
David Lynch is the definition of the artistic film director who has always been just a little left of normal. Essentially and without pretense, he is an honestly weird dude who has lots of issues, which make for a great artist. His weather reports from his backyard are absolutely hysterical. His art, if you can find it, is just as wonderful as his films. I love every film he’s ever made, even Six Figures getting Sick from his film school days in 1966.
David Lynch is one of those directors who makes you think so hard it hurts. Just try Blue Velvet on for size and see if I’m right. What I love about the journey through his films is that you tend to go to far away places intellectually and emotionally but eventually, you end up right back where you started.
While I love them all, Mulholland Dr. is his masterpiece. This film, like his others, pays so much attention to the little details that it humbles you. IN fact, one could argue that his attention to the little details can distract him from the overall vision he tries to create, but I think the vision itself is in the little details. He pays particular and special attention to the sound of every scene in his films--not the soundtrack or the score, but the ambient sound of a room, its natural state in sound.
